Job TitleInsurance Claims AdjusterJob DescriptionEmployees in this class work under the direct supervision of the Risk Manager of the County Attorney's office. Employees within this class perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks in the daily operation of the Self-Insurance Program including research, analysis, and adjusting of auto, auto liability, general liability, property, and workers' compensation claims asserted against Manatee County, Florida.Note: This position has been designated by the Manatee County Commission as serving at the will and pleasure of the County Attorney. Employees so designated may be terminated at any time with or without cause.Working Conditions Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Legal Studies, Business, Public Administration, or related field.Minimum five (5) years' experience adjusting insurance claims with an emphasis in the area of assignment.Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.State of Florida All Lines Adjuster License, or the ability to obtain prior to start date required.Comparable or equivalent combinations of education, training and work experience may be considered a reasonable substitute for the minimum qualifications.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of Auto, Auto Liability, General Liability, Property, or Workers' Compensation laws, rules, regulations, depending upon area of assignment, and best claims practices.Depending upon area of assignment, knowledge of auto repair practices, procedures, and costs.Ability to investigate, evaluate and adjust Auto, Auto Liability, General Liability, Property, or Workers' Compensation claims, depending upon area of assignment, including setting reserves, and negotiating settlements within authority.Ability to make independent decisions and maintain confidentiality at all times.Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate and negotiate with claimants, orally and in writing.Knowledge of legal processes and legal and medical terminology.Ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy of work.Ability to prepare detailed claims and financial reports.Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines.Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized.Able to analyze and resolve problems and situations.Capable of working independently to meet daily operational needs and deadlines.Good working knowledge and understanding of business English, spelling, and proper grammar.Strong verbal and written communication and general math skills required.Proficient in effectively using modern business software including current Windows operating system, e-mail systems, word processing programs, risk management information systems, and other applications required to perform job duties.Good interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, management, the general public, and other stakeholders.This position has been designated by the Board of County Commissioners as serving at the will and pleasure of the County Attorney.
